Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) is a perennial tropical plant in the Lamiaceae family, reaching about one meter in height. It is distinguished by its dense, broad, downy, dark green foliage, which is highly aromatic. When its leaves are crushed, they release a deep, woody, and slightly earthy scent, characteristic of oriental perfumes.

Native to Southeast Asia, patchouli thrives in warm, humid regions, particularly in Indonesia, the Philippines, and India. It prefers rich, well-drained soil and partial shade. Cultivation requires a consistently tropical climate with ample water, while avoiding excessive waterlogging around the roots.

Its flowering, though inconspicuous, produces small white to purplish flowers clustered in terminal bunches. However, it is the leaves that are harvested, dried, and then distilled to produce an essential oil highly prized in perfumery, cosmetics, and aromatherapy. Patchouli is renowned for its regenerative, soothing, and balancing properties, beneficial to both the skin and the mind.
