The mandarin orange tree (Citrus reticulata) is a small fruit tree in the Rutaceae family, averaging 4 meters in height. It has dense, evergreen foliage of a deep green, forming a rounded and regular crown. In spring, it is covered in delicately fragrant white flowers, heralding the fruit to come.

Adapted to mild climates, the mandarin tree thrives in light, well-drained soils rich in organic matter. It requires full sun to bear fruit well. Primarily cultivated in the Mediterranean basin, it can also adapt to cooler regions when grown in a pot, provided it is protected from frost during the winter.

Its fruits, smaller than oranges, are green when ripe in some early varieties and contain juicy, sweet, and highly aromatic flesh. Easy to peel and very popular with children, they are eaten fresh or juiced. The zest, rich in essential oil, is also used in cooking and perfumery for its fruity and sunny scent.
