Lavandin grosso is a natural hybrid resulting from a cross between true lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) and spike lavender (Lavandula latifolia). It is distinguished by its vigorous growth, long purple flower stalks, and highly aromatic grey-green foliage. This variety has been selected for its productivity and its strong, slightly camphoraceous fragrance.

Adapted to Mediterranean conditions, lavandin grosso thrives in poor, dry, well-drained soils in full sun. Highly resistant to heat and drought, it is often cultivated at moderate altitudes, particularly in Provence, where it forms vast, undulating fields of purple. It requires little maintenance and offers an excellent yield of essential oil.

It flowers in summer, usually in July, and is characterized by a profusion of blossoms that attract bees, butterflies, and other pollinating insects. Thanks to its hardiness and intense fragrance, lavandin grosso is widely used in perfumery, cosmetics, and for the production of essential oils for aromatherapy or household cleaning.
