Bourbon geranium (Pelargonium graveolens) is a perennial subshrub belonging to the Geraniaceae family. It is recognizable by its rounded, downy, and finely cut leaves, which are very aromatic and give off a fresh, floral scent reminiscent of roses. It produces delicate, pale pink to mauve flowers, grouped in light clusters, which add an ornamental touch to its dense foliage.

Native to Réunion Island and Madagascar, Bourbon geranium thrives in mild tropical regions with warm, humid climates. It prefers rich, well-drained, slightly acidic soils and a sunny location, but not excessively so. Although hardy, it is cultivated with care to maximize the quality of its essential oil, one of the finest in its category.

The leaves are harvested and steam-distilled, producing an essential oil widely used in cosmetics, perfumery, and aromatherapy. Prized for its balancing, purifying, and regenerating properties, it is often incorporated into skincare products for combination to oily skin, or used in a diffuser to soothe nervous tension and harmonize emotions.
