Wintergreen (Gaultheria fragrantissima) is a small, perennial shrub native to the mountainous and wooded areas of Asia and North America. It is distinguished by its dark green, evergreen, slightly toothed leaves, which release a characteristic scent when crushed. In its natural habitat, it thrives in acidic, well-drained soils, often in the shade of large trees.

Wintergreen is cultivated and harvested with care to preserve the plant and ensure an essential oil of excellent quality. The leaves are generally harvested by hand and then subjected to a steam distillation process that releases their aromatic richness. The resulting essence is naturally concentrated in methyl salicylate, the molecule responsible for its characteristic fragrance.
