Lemongrass (Cymbopogon nardus) is a tall perennial herb belonging to the Poaceae family. It is recognizable by its upright, thick, and rigid stems, as well as its long, strap-like, deep green leaves. Its bushy habit and height, which can exceed one meter, make it a plant that is both decorative and aromatic.

Native to the tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, it is easily cultivated in rich, moist but well-drained soils, in full sun. It thrives in warm, humid climates and can be grown in pots in more temperate zones. Regular pruning promotes its density and the quality of its aromatic parts.

Its leaves and stems release a fresh and powerful lemon scent when crushed. This characteristic fragrance is due to its high citral and geraniol content. Long used in cooking, in infusions, and as a natural insect repellent, lemongrass is also valued in aromatherapy for its purifying and soothing properties.
