Ylang-ylang (Cananga odorata) is a majestic tropical tree belonging to the Annonaceae family. It can reach 15 to 20 meters in height and is characterized by its deep green, evergreen foliage and its long, drooping, star-shaped yellow flowers with an intensely floral and exotic fragrance. These flowers are the source of one of the most precious essential oils in perfumery.

Ylang-ylang thrives in the warm, humid climates typical of Southeast Asia, Madagascar, and the Comoros Islands. It prefers rich, deep, well-drained soil and consistent warmth. Cultivated for both its beauty and its flowers, it is often planted near homes or in tropical gardens to enjoy its captivating fragrance.

Its flowering, which can last year-round in suitable climates, produces a nectar highly prized by pollinating insects. The flowers are harvested by hand, usually at dawn, and distilled within hours. The resulting essential oil is used for its relaxing, aphrodisiac, and balancing effects, both in cosmetics and aromatherapy.
